BRENTOR STATION was built by The London and South Western Railway Company as part of their new rail link between London Waterloo and Plymouth which opened in 1890. The building is constructed of local granite.

Since moving in eleven years ago we have carefully restored our home, taking care to preserve the full character of the building and original features. The platform canopy is a traditional and eye-catching feature further ensuring the building’s identity as a railway station. We have four acres of land surrounding the station, the area close to the house being ‘garden’ with a paddock, a small area of woodland and some naturalised areas to encourage wildlife. The River Burn also runs along the South Eastern boundary of the property.

We are situated six miles north of Tavistock on the western edge of Dartmoor, within the National Park boundary. Just two hundred yards from open moorland, the area offers outstanding scenery for walkers of all abilities. A gentle stroll around Brentor will give stunning views of the moor and to St.Michael de Rupe Church. Cyclists have route 27 of The Sustrans national cycle route passing our door with the route northward taking you via Okehampton onward to Bideford or southward via Tavistock to Plymouth. Most of the route to Okehampton is on a recently opened old rail route, in fact the one that used to pass through Brentor. The area is ideal for horse riding with several hacking centres close by.

We are also close to Lydford Gorge, a National Trust site, with other National Trust properties such as Cotehele and Castle Drogo within easy reach by car. Tavistock is well worth a visit, an attractive town with a busy pannier market, fortnightly farmers market and pleasing architecture.

We offer bed and breakfast accommodation for between 2 and 6 people in two double rooms and 1 twin room. Time and care has been taken to co-ordinate the rooms for a pleasing and comfortable feel. By taking only one booking at a time it ensures private use of the bathroom for each party. We offer a full English breakfast with eggs from our own free range chickens, locally produced sausages and bacon but our emphasis is to provide choice and to source as much food locally as possible; we offer our guests tea and home-made cake or scones on arrival.
